Analytical Balances
An analytical balance offers some of the most precise weights possible, and it should only be used by someone who is trained and qualified to handle it correctly. It must be regularly calibrated and maintained to retain accuracy, and it should only be kept in areas where it will be protected from spills and other accidents.

Precision Balances
Precision balances are known for their durability, accuracy, and ability to weigh larger amounts. They can offer detailed measurements, while handling a larger capacity than analytical balances. They will not be quite as accurate, but will still be much more precise than your average scale.

Some labs need to measure items with quite a small mass, in which case a microbalance is essential. They can calculate weights as small as one ten thousandths of a milligram. These balances are extremely sensitive, so you can rest easy knowing you are getting the most accurate measurement possible.
